Turned the game on the radio and Lou Boudreau said, "After 5 complete innings - the Cubs, no runs and no hits; the Dodgers, no runs and no hits". A double no-hitter by Sandy Koufax and Cub lefty, Bob Hendley was in progress. I sat glued to the radio as Hendley eventually gave up the only hit of the game - a bloop double by Lou Johnson - that did not figure in the game's only run. An error did, but I listened as Koufax struck out the last 6 batters. Ernie Banks said, "He just tried to blow it by us - and he did!" Despite being a lifetime Cub fan, being a LH high school pitcher, I loved watching Koufax. He was my favorite pitcher. A friend had asked me earlier that day, who was pitching against the Cubs that night. I said it was Koufax and my buddy said, "Hah! 2-hit shutout!" I replied that he would probably pitch a no-hitter. True story. And that was the last time the Cubs have been no-hit. Ironically, Koufax and Hendley matched up a week later at Wrigley Field - and the Cubs and Hendle
