Watching the game today from the vantage of 66 years,
it didn't seem so horrific. It was just one of those games.

But it was my first & I was only six & so to my child's sensibility, it was everything & it was horrible. It was like a really bad fairy tale with a deeply unhappy ending.
A year later, in 1948 came the news that the Giants had fired Mel Ott (who was one of Us & a really good guy) & replaced him with Leo Durocher who was a totally bad guy & on of them. How could they do it? My father & I sat in his 33 Dodge outside our house in Woodside. We really were devastated. It was a very hot day. My father said, "That's it. I'm not going to the Polo Grounds again." And he meant it. I was four years before I could get him to go back. It was a terribleday. Over the next few years, my father took me to games at Yankee Stadium. I never liked the Yankees, always rooted against them. It was like we were dating the wrong woman.

I believe this was the first game i ever saw. i was in the
second grade in school in ny. we were giant fans. i was not
yet seven years old. the game was a total horror show. 14-2 dodgers. five months later my father (who was a Fordham grd & recalled when Fordham was a big football power) took me to the PG to see Fordham play Penn State. (What was he thinking?) Another horror show, worse than the first. Penn State 75 Fordham 0.
