This was the first ballgame I ever saw in person. I was 8 years old and my father took me to the Polo Grounds to see our Giants, and , as an extra treat, to see Hank Greenberg who was then playing for the Pirates. I remember walking across the 155 St bridge from the Bronx to Harlem, and then walking down a lot of stairs towards a big building. I kept thinking, "where is the ball field??" Then, we entered the big building, and walked up a ramp, and the ball field came into view, bright green grass, and a dark brown infield. It looked enormous to me The lights lit the field as if it were daytime. The Giants won 4 to 1, Clint Hartung hit a home run, and I loved the Giants.
