1 Matlack wore something weird on his head
Posted by Jonathan R – 11/19/2013 at 9:08 PM
I WAS THERE. Matlack had to wear some kind of protection on his head because on May 8 (just 11 days before) Marty Perez of the Braves had hit a liner smack on his forehead. Not sure I can describe the gear he wore after 40 years. Check nytimes.com

As you can see by the game results, he was none the worse for wear. Unfortunately the bullpen blew it.
